Pilates
Pronounced Pi-lah-tees
Pilates is a method of body conditioning promoting physical harmony and balance while providing an energising workout for people of all ages and fitness levels. It was developed by German born Joseph Pilates and has been a popular form of exercise for years. The Pilates method is a group of controlled repetitive movements which work on smaller, weak muscle groups while lengthening the stronger, bulkier ones.
In the words of Joseph Pilates: “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 you’ll see the difference and in 30 you’ll have a new body.”
Benefits of the Pilates Method
Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, can be used for body conditioning and injury prevention. Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and Orthopaedists have discovered that the Pilates method can also be used as part of a rehabilitation exercise programme designed to speed recovery of soft tissue injuries.
