Aerobics and Fitness
Group Exercise Classes
The Galleon Centre offers over 70 classes each week in our Fitness and Exercise programme. Classes are not particularly aimed at beginners, intermediates and advanced etc as most of the workouts can be modified for the various levels of fitness in each individual participant. It must be borne in mind however that whilst regular exercise will always be promoted and encouraged among the younger generations, (under 16’s) many of the classes on offer are more suited to adults.
All instructors have different strengths, styles and teaching techniques so what you experience in one class will not necessarily be the same with another instructor.
The Centre provides a wide range of group exercise classes and whilst not every class will be suitable for every individual we feel the programme does offer something for everyone.

Aerobics
An energetic routine combining aerobics moves, dance routines and strength exercise to improve fitness and tone your body.
All Action Workout
An energetic action packed class combining aerobics, step, skipping, sit ups and press ups.
Aquatrim
Aerobics routines to music in the water. No impact means less stress on joints.
Bodyattack
A high-energy fitness class with moves that cater for total beginners to total addicts. We combine athletic movements like running, lunging and jumping with strength exercises such as push-ups and squats. A LES MILLS™ instructor will pump out energizing tunes and lead you through the workout – challenging your limits in a good way, burning up to 555 calories and leaving you with a sense of achievement.
Bodybalance
is a new generation yoga class that will improve your mind, your body and your life. You can expect to bend and stretch through a series of simple yoga moves, elements of Tai Chi and Pilates while an inspiring soundtrack plays in the background. Breathing control is a part of all the exercises, and instructors will always provide options for those just getting started. BODYBALANCE is ideal for anyone and everyone.
Bodycombat
is a high-energy martial arts-inspired workout that is totally non-contact. Punch and kick your way to fitness and burn up to 570 calories in a class. No experience needed. Learn moves from Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Muay Thai, Capoeira and Kung Fu. Release stress, have a blast and feel like a champ. Bring your best fighter attitude and leave inhibitions at the door.
Bodypump
is THE ORIGINAL BARBELL CLASS™, the ideal workout for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit – fast. Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. It will burn up to 400 calories. Instructors will coach you through the scientifically-backed moves and techniques pumping out encouragement, motivation and great music – helping you achieve much more than on your own! You’ll leave the class feeling challenged and motivated, ready to come back for more.
Bodystep
Basic stepping, just like walking up and down stairs, is at the heart of BODYSTEP™ – a full-body cardio workout to really tone your butt and thighs.
In a BODYSTEP workout you can expect a mixture of upbeat, rhythmic stepping, with squat and lunge patterns to work the legs. Combine this with movements like burpees, push ups and weight plate exercises, and the result is a fun, uplifting, full-body workout! Don’t worry, there’s heaps of options so that everyone leaves feeling successful.
Boxing
A great test of fitness and endurance, starting with a traditional rope work and shadow boxing warm–up, moving through to routines to build up combination punching and footwork utilising both pads and bags with a varied range of exercise thrown in. Tailored to suit all abilities and experience. The ideal way to overcome your most difficult opponent - yourself!
Circuit Training
The ultimate fitness workout. Press ups, squat thrusts, sit ups, squats, jogging. Not for the faint hearted.
Just Pump
Conditioning workout using barbells and adjustable weights to firm and tone.
Kettlebells
A high intensity, cardio workout to help your build muscle, increase power and become lean.
Metafit
This class works the large muscle groups with simple un-choreographed high intensity intervals and offers quick results. Traditional body weight exercises and high intensity interval training combined.
Over 50’s Keep Fit
Enjoyable and beneficial classes comprising of low impact aerobic routines. Not just for the “more mature”.
Pilates
The mind and body regime uses smooth controlled movements to stretch and tone the body and improve flexibility and posture.
RPM
is a group indoor cycling workout where you control the intensity. It’s fun, low impact and you can burn up to 500 calories a session. With great music pumping and the group cycling as one, your instructor takes you on a journey of hill climbs, sprints and flat riding. In an RPM workout you repeatedly rotate the pedals to reach your cardio peak then ease back down, keeping pace with the pack to lift your personal performance and boost your cardio fitness. RPM is a great way to build up your sense of personal achievement. You can draw on the group’s energy and find your rhythm in the music. You control your own resistance levels and speed so you can build up your fitness level over time. It’s a journey, not a race!
Shapes
This is the workout you never knew you needed. An invigorating blend of Pilates, barre, and power yoga set to modern beats. With small, controlled movements, you sculpt and strengthen all major muscle groups, improve alignment and increase flexibility. It’s a low impact but intense way to heat up your training.
Spinning
Brings an outdoor cycle ride indoors. Increase your lower body strength, see tremendous improvements in your endurance and burn body fat. If you like biking, you’ll love spinning.
Step Aerobics
An aerobic class which makes use of a platform, over which exercise moves are performed in a variety of combinations.
Tums, Bums and Thighs
A conditioning workout which targets those areas that need firmed up. Stability balls are used to isolate target muscle groups.
Yoga
Develop a holistic, healthy and harmonious lifestyle through a sense of physical and mental exercise.
20-20-20
A fantastic all round fitness class which consists of 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of strength training and 20 minutes of toning.
